Description: Class 26 electric locomotive Condition: New Powered: Yes Wheels: Metal Couplers: Mehano NEM (European) Length: Approx 196 mm (without couplers) Drive: All 8 wheels Decoder: NONE (DC operation only) Wheel configuration: Bo-bo The class 26 is an important serial of loco from the SNCB (35 pcs). Actually these engines are principally used for freight trains all over in Belgium, but during the first periode of their activities (1964-1984), they were used for all services on the principal electrified tracks (long distance national and international passengertrains, TEE trains, heavy freight trains). The cl 26 was build in 2 stades: a first serial of 5 locos was build in 1964. During the periode 1969-1971, another 30 locos were build. All locos cl 26 were build by the Belgian constructor La Brugeoise et Nivelles. ACEC in Charleroi supplied the tractionmotors (2 per engine). With 2590 kW, the cl 26 was 25% more powerfull than the other electrical locos of that periode. They were specially used on the connection with Luxembourg with it's strong declivities, and from their arrival at the SNCB they were placed in the depot of Ronet near Namur. A cl 26 weights 82,4 tons and has a max. speed of 130 km/h. They use 3000 V DC. As the cl 26 often runs in doubletraction, hauling iron or steel trains, we have forseen for each periode (paintsheme), 2 different loconumbers. The class 2611 and 2623 are in the actual paintsheme, from the depot of Charleroi |
